CIAT Team Visits KPMP Sahabat Tani Nusantara in Central Lampung
The International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) visited KPMP Sahabat Tani Nusantara's demonstration plots to assess cassava development in Central Lampung. Key finding: the biggest challenge is not in research, but in implementation.
We proudly welcomed a delegation from the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) to KPMP Sahabat Tani Nusantara's demonstration plots in Bandar Mataram, Central Lampung.
Purpose of the Visit
The visit aimed to assess the actual state of cassava development in Central Lampung, including:
- Evaluation of superior varieties currently under development
- Assessment of cultivation practices at the farmer level
- Identification of the gap between genetic potential and actual field results
Key Finding
The most valuable insight from the discussions with the CIAT team:
"The main challenge is not in research, but in implementation."
Superior genetics alone are not enough. What is needed is a solid support system: consistent cultivation practices, standardized inputs, and an integrated supply chain — so that research innovations truly deliver real-world impact on the ground.
Implications for Our Partnership Program
This finding reinforces KPMP Sahabat Tani Nusantara's approach, which focuses not only on supplying superior seeds, but also on:
- Standardizing cultivation practices through regular training
- Periodic monitoring by field agronomy teams
- Supply chain integration from farm to factory
Next Steps
We hope to continue collaboration with CIAT, particularly in testing new cassava varieties that are better adapted to Lampung's soil conditions and more resilient to climate change.
Thank you to the CIAT team for a highly valuable visit and discussion.
